Aser Moltashy
Institution: Reynolds Community College
Candidacy: Governor
Bio: I am the President of the Student Government Association, President and founder of the award-winning Junto Philosophy Discussion Club (shoutout Junto), and founder of Reynolds' VGS Club. Before these titles, I was a very different person. I had very few skills in leadership, little engagement in school, and bad grades. After I took an ethics class in my junior year, I turned my life around, but due to my previous mistakes, there was a lot to turn around. My leadership skills did not come easily; I discovered my weaknesses and worked hard to overcome them. Soon, I found myself overhauling a county-wide committee in my last year of high school. As I began my journey in leadership, I found my style: I find a problem, and work zealously to fix it. Students at my high school were so focused on federal politics that they were blind to the local issues at hand. So I created a segment on the morning announcements interviewing local politicians. This is just one example of my leadership style, which earned me a social studies award. All of these titles were earned in my pursuit of solving problems. For example, last year, I was the only delegate from Reynolds, and I could not let my peers miss out on this wonderful opportunity, so I formed a club and handed its presidency to someone who I think is better. However, leadership is not all about titles and awards; it's about results. In a college with historically low student engagement, I led a team to form a successful and active club, averaging around 20-25 participants a week. The club grew exponentially, mostly because I had the right people as officers. If you wish to see more results, I invite you to join us at Junto, where you will see a unique and enriching way of debating.
Statement: I am running for governor because the Commonwealth deserves the kind of leadership that I bring to the table: leadership that defies all odds and pushes past them. Leadership that focuses on ethics, not just politics. Leadership that makes results, not headlines. Vote for me, and I will make the impossible, inevitable.
