Ali Thomas
Institution: Brightpoint Community College
Candidacy: Governor
Bio: My name is Ali Thomas and I am a second-year student at Brightpoint Community College. In addition to being a full-time student, I work as both a paralegal and bartender while raising my two children as a single mother. Balancing these responsibilities has strengthened my resilience, work ethic, and ability to stay organized under pressure.
I am headstrong, outspoken, and detail-oriented, with a passion for advocacy and leadership. My dedication to serving others was recognized through receiving the Impact Award at the 2025 Virginia Government Simulation and being named Brightpoint's Trailblazer of the Year for the 2025–2026 school year.
As I continue my academic journey, I plan to transfer to VCU next fall to study Political Science before pursuing law school. My long-term goal is to use my education and experiences to advocate for others, amplify the voices of those who have been silenced, and create meaningful change in my community.
Statement: I’m running for Governor of VGS because I want to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of Virginians by focusing government on what actually serves people, not what controls them. I believe in protecting personal freedom while strengthening the foundations that let communities thrive in the first place. As your Governor, I will work tirelessly to restore the common good to the common people.
